Video: How to motivate pregnant patients to stop drinking

A Motivational Interviewing video for FAS prevention

We have developed a videotape for healthcare providers who work with pregnant women. Its purpose is to teach motivational interviewing skills to these providers so that they may be more effective in motivating their patients to abstain while pregnant. The goal is to prevent Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and other alcohol-related birth defects.

We have completed this project. A manuscript about the effectiveness of this training video was published in Obstetrics & Gynecology in the February 1999 issue. The Addiction Research Foundation has also just reviewed our video.
